AW-DHIGLE ( Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army said it killed 16 al-Shabaab fighters during operation in Lower Shabelle region on Sunday.
According to Somali Armed Forces twitter post, the security operation was conducted at Sham village near the recently liberated agricultural rich Barire and Awdhigle towns.
Sources said six government forces also lost their lives in the intense fighting which continued for hours although no official confirmation from the SNA command.
Somali armed forces recaptured the strategic town of Awdhigle from al-Shabaab armed group last week.
The Agricultural town which is located on the basin of river Shabelle connects the capital to the lower Shabelle and others parts of the country.
The troops attempts by the militants to launch attack to retake the significant area.
Somali troops trained by Turkey are in the forefront on a new offensive against al-Shabaab in a bid to retake areas still under armed group control in the Lower Shabelle region.
Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo called for cooperation and support during his Eid message on Sunday.
