NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – At least 13 people have been confirmed dead, and several others wounded following a bus accident in Matuu, Machakos county on Wednesday.
According to Kenyan police, the ill-fated bus which was heading to Nairobi from the border town of Mandera crashed on a truck parked on the roadside without caution or lifesaver signs.
The dead include 10 men, two women and a child, area police boss Joseph Karanja told the local media.
The morning crash left scores of other passengers injured, and they are undergoing treatment at Matuu Level Four Hospital.
The bus belongs to Madina Sacco and operates typically between the capital, Nairobi and the northern Kenya town, Mandera near the Somalia border.
Deadly road accidents are very common in Kenya, especially during festive seasons.
The government banned night travel across the country last year after more than 40 people were killed by a bus accident along the rift valley province.
